Matthew Henry was a Welsh theologist and preacher born in 1662. He started studying law, but decided to start preaching in his community and later became a Presbiterian ministry. Undoubtedly, he is best known for his comprehensive commentary on all the books of the Bible, named An Exposition of the Old and New Testaments, also known as Matthew Henry’s Commentary on the Whole Bible. In this work, instead of presenting deep theological thoughts, Henry offers practical advise and suggestions, suitable for all people instead of being aimed only to scholars and clerics. Henry died in 1714 without having completed this work, completing only until the commentary of the Acts of the Apostles. Other like-minded theologists continued with his work, adding commentaries for the rest of the books.
